Art Program

Creativity becomes more visible when adults try to be more attentive to the cognitive process of children than to the results they achieve in the various fields of doing and understanding.”
-Loris Malaguzzi

Art is one of the first languages of children and we see art expression as a key conveyor for early childhood development. Art at Brooklyn Sandbox is an ever-present ongoing classroom exploration. Two year-olds will move from intuitive scribbling and mark-making to symbolization when turning three, their drawings begin to become representational.

Color theory, composition, sensory exploration, cognition, visual fine and gross motor development, expressive language, emotional literacy and self-regulation along with a little mystery and magic converge in a child’s artistic expression.

Our Art Educator along with classroom teachers guide children in their individual and collaborative projects as they make their own discoveries and work to master techniques, tools and media.

Children share and begin to document orally what is meaningful about their process. Classroom galleries are a rotating display of their most thoughtful work.

Parents are invited to attend Gallery Night and participate in our annual Art Auction Fundraiser.

We'd love to hear from you.
